We are excited to bring back coffee from the Los Dos Socios farm in Guatemala for the second year in a row! Coffee was introduced to Guatemala through immigration in the mid-1800’s.   At the time, the government of Guatemala encouraged agriculture, and in particular, coffee.  What was previously the main export crop, indigo, had failed and the government encouraged these new migrants to replace it with coffee production. From there, Guatemala quickly grew to become one of the top five coffee producers in the world, although their place has since waned as coffee production has grown elsewhere.

The country has several coffee growing regions, one of which is the highly-prized Huehuetenango region, which is known for full-bodied coffees that tend to be more fruit-forward than other regions. It is in this region that this offering, from the Dos Socios farm, was grown. The farmer, Don Concepción Villatoro Matias, purchased the farm in 1990, and since then it has been used for planting and harvesting coffee. Over time, Concepción bought other small parcels, planting them with Bourbon and Caturra varieties beneath the Graviola and Chalum shade trees. The name 'Los Dos Socios',or the two associates, refers to his relationship with God as the other associate supporting his farm.

Look for flavors of nougat, cherry, orange, and chocolate accompanied by a round, full body. This cozy coffee is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
