Over the last six years, we have had the privilege of bringing in coffees from an amazing group of farmers called Gold Mountain Coffee Growers. This group is a collection of farmers whose aim is to connect farmers and coffee roasters with a goal of fighting poverty through quality coffee. Year after year, their coffees continually impress us! This year, we purchased three lots from them.  Gold Mountain Pacamara is the third and final release from this harvest!

This coffee is the result of the work of many of the producers at the Gold Mountain Coffee Growers. Oftentimes, farmers will grow a number of different varieties of coffee on their farms. This is because different varieties have different attributes that coffee farmers find valuable, such as yield, tree height, pest resistance, and cup quality (to name a few). The Pacamara variety is known for its sweet, soft, and complex acidity, as well as its large fruit size, but the yield tends to be low. Because of this, many of the farmers in the group pick and combine their Pacamara harvest to make a separate lot. Over the years, this lot has consistently produced a prominent apple flavor profile, prompting the farmers to nickname this coffee "Collaborative Apple Notes” - a very apt name!

We found the coffee to be soft and complex. Up front we get a nuttiness like marzipan, which then opens up to sweet notes of honey, apple, mango, and papaya, finishing with a light, lilac-like floral.  Although the beans are massive, the flavor is more soft and elegant.  It’s a very nice finale to the 3 Gold Mountain offerings we’ve had from this year’s harvest (Nicaragua El Divino Niño and Nicaragua El Porvenir being the other two). As we mentioned earlier, Pacamara trees yield less fruit than many other coffee trees, and with that, we only have a small amount of this coffee.  Enjoy it while you can!
