Ethiopia is widely considered the birthplace of coffee and it has significant cultural importance for the country. This delicious offering is grown in Yirgacheffe, an area which is historically known to produce coffees with beautiful floral and berry notes - although there are microregions that have their own special characteristics. Most producers only have around 1 hectare (about 2.5 acres) of land and their operations can be thought of more like gardens than farms.

Typically, producers bring their coffee cherries to a washing station where they get blended with coffees from other nearby farmers. This works well for creating regional coffee profiles, but occasionally, a producer’s coffee is so good that it is worth separating out and offering by itself. Cafe Imports, our importer friends, and their export partners, all thought that the coffee which Mr. Tadese Teko offered was exceptional! Mr. Tadese Teko is one of millions of farmers who live in the highlands of Ethiopia and who rely on coffee to support their livelihood. He owns 8 hectares of land and has 9 children, all of whom are able to go to school with the help of his coffee income. This offering is a beautiful example of a washed Yirgacheffe!

Look for a sweet and juicy cup with flavors of rose, plum, and Honeycrisp apple.  To have a single producer’s coffee from Ethiopia, like this one, is a rare treat!

All coffees are available in whole bean only.
