We are excited about this new offering from Ethiopia Kayon Mountain Farm! Coffees from Ethiopia are among the most beautiful coffees in the world. Ethiopia is thought by many to be the birthplace of coffee. Because of the number of heirloom varieties that the country has, you would be hard pressed to find a similar coffee from any other origin. Many highly sought after varieties - from various places around the world - can trace their lineage back to Ethiopia. Also, each region tends to have slightly different flavor profiles. The Guji region, formerly part of the well-known Sidama region, is known to have intense fruity and winey flavors alongside soft floral notes.

Some of our customers might remember Kayon Mountain Farm from as recently as last year, but they have had a place on our menu for several years now! We were awarded second place in the Golden Bean Awards last year with this coffee, which is a testament to the quality they do at the farm. They are known for their award winning washed and natural-processed coffees, with each processing method offering its own beautiful and unique cup profile. The farm is located on the border of two villages—Taro and Sewana— in the Oromia region, in the Guji zone of the Shakiso district of Ethiopia. Owned by Ismel Hassen since 2012, it has an impressive 300 hectares of planted trees, with more room to expand. The farm has 25 permanent employees and 300 seasonal employees. It offers free transportation services to its staff, as well as financial services for schools and other projects for the local community.  It pays well above average wages for its employees.  Since the farm is Certified Organic, it pushes quality by meticulously managing all of its harvesting and processing. Its nursery is on site, and it uses indigenous trees to protect and shade the coffee trees while they mature. Year after year they produce amazing coffees that we always look forward to tasting!

From this year's crop, we chose a natural-processed coffee because of its jammy flavors of raspberry, apricot, white chocolate, and the sweet florals of rosehip, coupled with a big wine-like body. This coffee is a real treat!

All coffees are available in whole bean only.
