This coffee comes from the Kayanza district in northern Burundi. Like many coffees from Burundi, this coffee is traceable back to its washing station, the Businde Washing Station. The station was founded in 2015 by Zuberi Matsitsi and offers its services to a wide range of local coffee farmers, serving around 650 surrounding small-holder farmers. They pay their laborers almost 60% more than average, making it an important part of their community. They also pay the farmers around 20% more than the local rate for their cherries. This particular lot comes from Masasu Hill, an area near the washing station that is known locally for good quality cherries. Once the coffee is pulped, they distribute the compost made from the pulp to surrounding farmers to use as fertilizer for the following year's crop. The station also fosters seedlings and donates them to the farms, helping producers increase future yields. The result from these careful practices is a delicious and high-quality product that really shines!

In the cup, we find notes of nectarine, orange, and cola with a round, wine-like body. This is a phenomenal offering and we are excited to share it with you! It tastes great hot or iced, so try switching up how you brew it.

A few years ago, our relationship with the small Rwandan coffee exporter, Higa Coffee, began. With their help, we have been able to source some unique and beautiful coffees from Rwanda and Burundi. With their help, we found this wonderful lot, and we couldn’t be more pleased to offer it to you for the third year now! With a lot of challenges happening globally, Higa Coffee was about to shut down and this was going to be one of our last coffees with them. They were able to restructure and stay in business, but their ability to source in Burundi is uncertain. With that, there is a decent chance this will be the last time we can source this coffee for the foreseeable future. We will be sad if we can’t book this coffee again, but happy that we are able to enjoy it for now!

All coffees are available in whole bean only.
